Georgia Gypsy Horses

One reason I love the Georgia Mountains is that it's a wonderful area to enjoy my horses. I've had horses for more than fifty years. Most have been Arabs or part Arabs. Currently, I have ten horses. Six are Gypsy horses.

Georgia Gypsy Horses -
Ellijay and Gilmer County in the North Georgia Mountains is the home a growing population of Gypsy Horses.

In 2002, I and two friends spent a week riding through the Argyll region of Scotland. We quickly came to appreciate the horses we used -- sturdy animals, very calm and extremely sure-footed on the often treacherous terrain of the Western Highlands. These horses are described variously as Irish Cobs, Gypsy Cobs, Gypsy Vanners, or simply, Gypsy Horses. I fell in love with these horses and resolved to have one.

Here are some pictures of my horses.

Scimitar - Scim is the oldest of our horses. We bought him in 1976, and he's about 40 years old. He's part Arab and still tries to be the leader of the herd. His retirement is well-earned.

Grace - Gracie is an twelve year-old, lovely part Arab, part Quarter-Horse. She's been featured in some of my advertising. She's very sweet but a challenge to ride.

Toufan - Toufan is eight year-old half-Arab. We owned his mother (Shatah) and his grandmother (Spirit), now both deceased. He was a surprise a few years ago. He's very friendly, inquisitive, and full of energy.

Chaco - Chaco is an twelve year-old Paintaloosa. He's a pleasure to ride and my choice for trail rides in the mountains.

Scarlet - Scarlet was our first imported Gypsy. She came from England and is now five. She's a doll.

Scarlet is a willing riding partner.

Ravishing Ruby - Ruby, a Gypsy mare, now twelve, arrived from England in November 2004. She had a beautiful colt Cola the following June.

Ruby is very steady, wonderful with children, and one of my favorites to ride.

Gimli - This (now) four year-old Gypsy gelding came to Ellijay with his mother, Heather Blue, in 2004. Sadly, we lost our beautiful Blue early this year.

Gimli has one blue eye and one brown (not unusual for the breed) and a lovely mane. He's very sweet and demands your attention. He is for sale for $7,000.

Cola is a three-year old Gypsy gelding. He's the son of Ruby.

Cola is very friendly and is a deep mahogany color that's almost black. Cola is now offered for sale for $8,000.

Gemma is a three year-old Gypsy mare out of Heather Blue. Her sire was the fine stallion Royal Tinker.

Gemma is nicely feathered and has the gentle nature for which the breed is famous. Gemma is offered for sale for $16,000.

Zag is a Gypsy colt out of Scarlet . The sire was our own Cola. He was rejected by his mother and has been raised as an orphan foal.

Zag is prospering and will be a beauty. Zag is offered for sale for $7,000.
