Georgia Mountains Events

The North Georgia Mountains offer many enjoyable events. Here is just a sampling of upcoming Georgia Mountains events. Check back often.

The Tour de Georgia
, an annual cycling race classified as North America's highest rated professional cycling stage race (along with the Tour of California), has, for last several years, run over Fort Mountain, right through downtown Ellijay and through other challenging areas of our mountains, and has featured Lance Armstrong.

In 2008, two stages occurred in our mountains. Stage 5 began in Suwannee, ran through Cumming, Pickens County (just east of Jasper), Gilmer County (east of Ellijay), Fannin County (south of Blue Ridge), Suches, and ended in Dahlonega for a total distance of 133.4 miles.
Stage 6 started in Blairsville, circled Lake Nottely, and finished at the top of Brasstown Bald Mountain, the highest peak in Georgia. The distance for this stage was 88.4 miles. The event was held in April.

Cherrylog Pickin' is held every Thursday at the Whitepath Fire House. Musicians of all ages and experience and everyone who enjoys music are invited. Starts at 6:00 pm. Free.

The Cherry Log Chapter of the Southeastern Bluegrass Association (SEBA) meets and plays every last Saturday of the month from 3 to 6 at the Cherry Log Christian Church Fellowship Hall on Cherry Log Street.

Blue Ridge Dulcimers meet every Monday at 1:00 pm at Blue Ridge Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. Visitors are welcome. This group performs frequently at various community events and local nursing homes. Call Anne at 706-632-3854 or Mary at 706-492-5759 for more information.

Gilmer County is also the Apple Capital of Georgia. The annual Georgia Apple Festival in October, with its many events and activities, is very popular. The festival is held for two weekends along the river in Ellijay.

The Annual Cherry Log Fall Festival is held on the first three weekends of October at the Cherrylog Community Center. Come enjoy good food, foot-stomping music, and mountain arts and crafts.

In 2008, the event was held in early April with 85 teams participating. Also in 2008, Blue Ridge hosted a National Championship event in November.
